I'm ticked off right now. I just wasted almost three hours of my life putting together a video for a distant relative - only to find out when I posted it on YouTube - that this bum was using copyrighted music from a song that was published less than two years ago!
The band is still roaming around the country (touring) and singing this song! Yet, he thinks he can just write lyrics for this song, give it a title, put his name on it, and make it his own... and not even give the producer or the record label or the group any kind of credit.
I thought he had gotten a free or leased beat, but this jackass has a bunch of mp3s loaded with the music and instrumentals of famous celebrity rappers, singers, bands, etc.... Like:
Tyga
Miley Cyrus; Juicy J (what the hell?)
Kendrick Lamar
Kanye West
Rihanna - Pour It Up
etc.
Why are you wasting your time writing lyrics for all of these popular songs - and, he's not trying to make "remixes" or "parodies" or "cover" a song - when you know you have a zero to slim chance of getting any kind of airplay?
And, if you create a better song than these famous artists, do you think they're going to give you permission to use their music so that you can be MORE popular than they are or outshine them - or, steal their fans? Ain't no way in hell. Everybody knows the Music Industry is a cut-throat business. And, these famous and semi-famous artists ain't about to let a "local artist" take food out of their mouths or the gold chains off of their necks.
Anyway... There's enough good free music out here that you can write to and create a masterpiece with. Give the beat creator/producer his or her props (and maybe some cash and recognition) and, you can hit the ground running with a name for yourself off of your own original hot music.
Stop wasting your time and other people's time.
Now, if my "homie" just wants to freestyle over beats for fun, he should've said so. Some people just like to rap and sing as personal entertainment. That's cool... That's a personal interest or hobby.
But, if you're serious about being an artist, don't try to claim another person's music as your own.
There is enough new music out there to last a quadruple quadrillion gazillion years. You can't even find it all. And, if you could find it all, you'd never be able to listen to all of it in a single lifetime. And, much of it is just as good (if not better in some cases) than what's out there in the mainstream.
It's really up to You to make a track hot. It depends on how you use it and the flavor you add to it. Market and Promote yourself. That's the key.
So... you don't have to waste your time on published beats and songs. Step up your game and create something special of your own. There are plenty of good beats out here. Get off your ass and go get'em.
